The City of Newnan Fire Department's mission is to have professionally trained career Firefighters that are committed to saving lives and property; To minimize the loss and suffering in our community due to fire through public education, code enforcement, and standards and training certification of personnel; To provide responses to fires, hazardous material incidents and emergency medical calls with resources available.
Newnan Fire Department is a full-time paid department and currently employees 44 active firefighting personnel from Firefighter to Fire Chief and one Office Assistant. Firefighters are divided into three shifts: A, B, and C. Firefighters are on-duty for 24 hours and shifts rotate each morning. Shift captains command each shift. Two Lieutenants from the Newnan Fire Department are also certified police officers for any arson investigations.
The department consists of three stations: 23 Jefferson Street (Station 1), 1516 Lower Fayetteville Road (McKenzie Station) and Westside Precinct (Station 3 on Temple Avenue). The Newnan/Coweta Public Safety Training Complex is located at 473 Greison Trail. At the Training Complex, firefighting personnel train in various areas from basic firefighting techniques to advanced tactical rope rescue. The training complex consist of a live burn building, a newly renovated training tower with electrical simulator and a defensive driver’s course.
The fire department’s daily services to the community include, but are not limited to, fire prevention, fire suppression, haz-mat response, rescue and emergency medical assistance, and various unforeseen incidents. The Fire Department also conducts station tours at both stations and gives back to the community through Public Fire Prevention Education by visiting schools as requested.
