 Mayor Keith Brady
The City of Newnan was honored to partipate in the effort which established a new Veterans’ Memorial Plaza to recognize those individuals who made major sacrifices in order to preserve our human freedoms. Each day, we enjoy the freedom of speech and expression, the freedom of religion, the freedom from want, and the freedom from fear of aggression.
Our freedoms have been bought and paid for by our military, and we would like to honor these men and women, who are our friends, family, and neighbors.
Many bricks of dedication were purchased to help to make the Veteran’s Memorial Park a reality. Installation of the bricks began in 2008 and more bricks have been installed for Veteran’s Day 2009. Bricks may still be purchased through the City of Newnan.

Coweta County Veterans Conceptual Drawing
Coweta County has a long and distinguished history of military dedication and sacrifice to our State and Nation.
The purpose of the City of Newnan’s Veterans’ Plaza is to recognize this citizenship and service. In addition to the City’s current recognition of the military, the Plaza will contain names of those that served in past or recent conflicts.
Recognition is in two forms:
Missing in Action and Prisoners of War, and casualties of present and future wars are recognized on bronze plaques along the “Wall of Honor”, a granite monument stands in the plaza, and bronze sculptures stand to memorialize Coweta County Medal of honor recipients Col. Joe M. Jackson and the late Maj. Stephen W. Pless along with sculptures of two children.
“Defenders of Freedom Walk” is made up of dedicated bricks bearing the names of many of our military of Newnan and Coweta County as well as bricks dedicated to family members and bricks saying thank you to our military. Larger contributions for the Plaza were also given and those donors have also received appropriate recognition at the Veteran’s Plaza.
The Veterans’ Memorial Plaza is an integral part of the City Park at the corner of Jackson Street and Temple Avenue.
Public Participation
You can still participate in this "Buy a Brick" program! It is an excellent opportunity for individuals or businesses to honor and to recognize the distinguished service of our veterans. This recognition is not just for the military of Newnan but for the entire County of Coweta. This County has paid a price for the freedoms we enjoy. World War I claimed 13 lives, World War II — 63, Korea — 3, Vietnam — 18, and the results of the sacrifices for the Global War on Terror are yet to be recorded.
