Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax is a 1 cent sales tax intended solely for voter approved capital projects and only a County Government can call for a S.P.L.O.S.T. referendum.  In 1992 the first S.P.L.O.S.T. was approved in Newnan & Coweta County.  Our citizens re-authorized S.P.L.O.S.T. issues in 1997, 2002, & 2007, and studies have shown that up to 40% of all S.P.L.O.S.T. revenues come from non-county residents!  Click the link below to see how S.P.L.O.S.T. has enhanced Newnan over the past several years.

The park was completed in the April of 2008. The public was invited to join the City of Newnan in this celebratory event. Mayor Keith Brady and members of City Council will officially cut the ribbon to begin the festivities.

The Greenville Street Park is a two acre urban park nestled between Greenville Street,  LaGrange Street, and Salbide Avenue and strategically placed on the edge of the historic Greenville/LaGrange residential neighborhood, its commercial district, and is within walking distance of historic downtown Newnan.  The urban type “hardscapes” park was designed as a first class gathering place for downtown patrons, lunch time crowds, afternoon and evening musical concerts, and other festive events.

The park features a 25 column colonnaded entrance, a terraced lawn area and stage that serves as a small amphitheatre, a water fountain, brick plazas, a covered pavilion, and plenty of tables and chairs. Meandering paths, secluded benches, and extensive landscaping compose the balance of the new park. The Greenville Street Park will also feature two sculptures, one by prominent Atlanta artist, Martin Dawe, and the other by renowned artist, Carol Harless. For more information on sculptor Martin Dawe log onto http://www.cherrylion.com/

The second sculpture has been installed. The sculpture is by internationally renowned artist Carol Harless and the name of sculpture is 'Lady of the House.' The sculpture captures the joy and exuberance of a young woman celebrating her love for an architectural legacy. This joyful woman dances in a dress while holding a piece of bargeboard -- decorative millwork used on many Victorian-era cottages -- overhead. The bargeboard is significant to Harless because it's rumored that no two bargeboards in Newnan's historic districts are alike. Much of the bargeboard trim in Newnan was made by R.D. Cole Manufacturing Co., which later became Brown Steel and Caldwell Tank. In the 1800s R.D. Cole produced fine millwork before the company went into the manufacture of steel tanks. The company also built the 1904 Coweta County Courthouse.
