THE CITY OF NEWNAN ANNOUNCES PLANS FOR YOUTH CITY COUNCIL

The City of Newnan is excited to announce its plans for a new Youth City Council, Mayor Pro Tem Jenkins and Bonnie Garrison of ‘Communities in Schools’ has partnered with the City to help with the start of the program.

In preparation for the Newnan Youth City Council, the City has invited the Chatham County Youth Commission for a presentation and question and answer breakfast to be held at The Centre for the Performing and Visual Arts located at 1523 Lower Fayetteville Road on January 31st at 8:00 A.M.

"The breakfast is a great way for the City to learn more about the process of creating our own Youth City Council," said Gina L. Snider public information officer.  "Many cities and counties across America have youth councils and this is a great step towards opening communications with our city’s youth. This is a meeting of the minds of what has worked in the past with this kind of program and what has not. It has our youth involved with local government which is very positive for our City and community.”

At the January 22nd City Council meeting, the Mayor and Council voted to move forward with the process of creating a Youth City Council in Newnan.

The next step in the process will be to draft a city ordinance for the Youth City Council and Newnan Youth Activities Commission, a group of adults, to oversee and advise the youth programs. The ordinance will have to go before City Council for approval.
