Spence Avenue Update PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 23 June 2009

Update 10/8/09: According to GDOT work will begin on Spence Ave at the railroad track beginning the week of October 12th and they will work their way toward SR 14.  GDOT will have to work under a single lane closure at that location for approx 2-3 weeks to complete the curb and gutter construction.  The plan is to be finished by 3 pm everyday to minimize disruptions to the traffic at the location.  Please be advised to all those that may be affected and  to please be patient and aware of the construction in that vicinity.  GDOT will maintain access to the affected parcels at all times.

The next phase of the project will take 6-8 weeks to complete the curb and gutter.  Next will be the construction of  all the concrete driveways, handicap access ramps and sidewalk after that.  Asphalt paving and striping will be performed after all the concrete work.

There may be additional closings as a result of construction within the coming weeks. Those dates have not yet been decided, according to Phillips.

The Georgia Department of Transportation began construction on the intersection on July 20. The first phase of work closed a portion of Spence Avenue from the railroad to Greenville Street for approximately two weeks to re-work the stormwater system.

The project will consist of traffic improvements and streetscape additions. GDOT will add left-hand turn lanes and signals at the intersection, along with utility and drainage improvements and associated curbing and sidewalks.
