The Newnan Fire Department would like to share a tip on winter fire safety. Make sure that candles are secured in stable non-flammable holders, such as metal, ceramic, or glass. Anything made of wood or decorated with dried materials or fabric is asking for trouble. A candle should never be used without some sort of holder; otherwise, it can burn down to the surface on which it stands.Keep candles away from flammable materials including papers, towels, and silk and dried flower arrangements. Keep in mind that curtains can drift across a candle flame and ignite.Whenever children are in your home, keep candles and matches out of their reach. Never leave a child unsupervised in a room with a lighted candle.Don't leave any candle unattended. If you must leave the room, extinguish all candles; that way, you'll be saving them for the times you will be there to enjoy them! There were seven new occupational tax certificates issued by the city. The business names are All 4 U Custom Cleaning Service, LLC, Benton House of Newnan Lakes, Envision Learning, Evergreen Lawn Care, Exclusives, Howard Bohannon, Rooms To Go and Sincere Rewards.
The city of Newnan Animal Control Officer, Cyndi Hoffman reminds everyone the following safety tips will help to ensure a safe and fulfilling Thanksgiving for you and your pets:Talkin’ Turkey: Giving your pets a little nibble of turkey is okay, just be sure that it’s boneless and fully cooked. Raw or undercooked turkey may contain salmonella bacteria, and dogs can choke on bones, which splinter easily.Sage Advice: This peppery herb makes stuffing taste delish, but sage also contains essential oils and resins that can cause pets to suffer stomach upset and possible depression of the central nervous system.Battery Power: The holiday season means lots of cameras, radios and other battery-operated electronics. Please don’t leave batteries lying around. If swallowed, they can cause choking or obstruction; if punctured, the chemicals in alkaline batteries can cause burns to the mouth and esophagus.
Thanksgiving Day is this Thursday; CLM Sanitation will observe this holiday and take Thursday off. During this week all collection services following Thursday will move to the next day. CLM will move Thursday’s collection services to Friday, and Friday’s services will be collected on Saturday. Collection services on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday will remain the same.
