‘Newnan Notes’ By Gina Snider February 22, 2010 City of Newnan Public Information Officer If you have a child that is in the sixth grade the ‘If I were Mayor’ Essay Contest has kicked off. One winning essay will be selected from each of Georgia Municipal Association’s 12 districts. Winners will receive a $250 savings bond and other prizes. The winners, alongwith their parents and a teacher, will be recognized at an awards luncheon during April, 2010. All students submitting essays will receive a "Certificate of Participation" as a thank-you for their interest and effort. Locally, The City of Newnan will alsosponsor a pizza party for the Coweta winner and his or her class, and present them with a visit and certificate from the Newnan Mayor Keith Brady. Essays may not exceed 350 words. All sixth grade students in Coweta are eligible toenter. The contest gives 6th grade students a chance to creativelyuse grade-specific language arts skills and civics/social studies knowledge. The Carnegie will present family yoga on Saturday,March 6th at 11 a.m. The Carnegie will be open from 10-2 pm.
