Spring time is here and the Engineering Department would like to remind you of some pruning, tree and brush removal, and planting information. Please remember to be careful when working near a creek. Only hand cut small underbrush and minimize tree pruning. Trees and bushes help moderate the temperature of the water; filter pesticides, nitrogen, phosphorus, and sediment; and help prevent bank erosion. State and local ordinances prohibit clearing of buffers without a permit. For more information contact the Engineering Department at 770.253.2682.
Keep Newnan Beautiful reminds citizens, a major source of litter is from unsecured loads in the back of the common pickup truck. Your truck bed is NOT the right place for your empty cups, bags or cans. Air movement does not hold them in place, especially at highway speeds. Put your trash in a trash can or keep it in the car until you can toss it correctly. For more information about Keep Newnan Beautiful please contact

The city of Newnan Animal Control Officer, Cyndi Hoffman offers a quick tip on how to build a lasting bond with your pet. Unlike our complicated human relationships, unconditional love and dedicated friendship just come with the job. But like any good friend, the bond grows over time.
Dogs thrive and attachment grows when you give them your dedication, attention and time. That's why it's essential to take time every day to spend with each dog you have, preferably away from the distractions of home. If you have multiple dogs, this can also support training efforts Davis explains. "If they always go out together, training will not be as good and bad habits and fears can rub off from one dog to the other. Most of all, you'll be missing important bonding opportunities."
The predictability of routine has the power to build lasting bonds between people and dogs. Walking and feeding your dog on a schedule and rewarding good behavior consistently all add up to trust, the one thing any good relationship must have.
You pay into your relationship by taking time every day with your dog for grooming and exercise, perfect opportunities to reinforce gentle training exercises. Practice rewarding walking on a loose leash, paying attention, retrieving and coming when called. "When you create and maintain a good bond with your dog, you make the dog a real member of your family."
