Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax is a 1 cent sales tax intended solely for voter approved capital projects and only a County Government can call for a S.P.L.O.S.T. referendum.  In 1992 the first S.P.L.O.S.T. was approved in Newnan & Coweta County.  Our citizens re-authorized S.P.L.O.S.T. issues in 1997, 2002, & 2007, and studies have shown that up to 40% of all S.P.L.O.S.T. revenues come from non-county residents!  Click the link below to see how S.P.L.O.S.T. has enhanced Newnan over the past several years.

The city of Newnan Animal Warden, Cyndi Hoffman reminds everyone that the new tethering ordinance is now in effect.  Please make sure that your dog is no longer tethered outside.  Also, take this time to check the dog house to make sure it is still the proper size for your dog and that there are not any leaks. Please also make sure and provide fresh cool water for the animal.  Check your dog's collar to assure proper size and that an ID tag is attached with current contact information on it. Please check with your veterinarian and verify that your pets’ vaccinations are current. Please log onto www.ci.newnan.ga.us or call 770-253-2355 for more information on the new ordinance.

The City’s Engineering Department would like to remind you that when doing summer projects it is important to be careful when working with concrete.  Concrete, cement, grout, stucco, plaster and mortar washout wastewater is corrosive and caustic. The pH of concrete can be over 12, essentially the same as Liquid Drano (R) or other household cleaners.  Concrete washout or rinse water may not be discharged into any water body, on the ground, or stormwater inlet.  Remember, most concrete companies offer sturdy washout bags or containers that may be used to contain the concrete washout.  When selecting you concrete provider, consider companies that provide concrete washout methods, safe removal of the concrete, and preference should be given to those that recycle collected materials.  For more information, contact the Engineering Department at 770-253-2682.

Keep Newnan Beautiful addresses the question of to turn off the engine or not. Times have changed. The new wisdom says to turn off your engine if you will be sitting for more than thirty seconds. The best suggestion I’ve come across for this one is to park the car and walk inside the fast food joint rather than waiting to drive through the drive-thru. That way you not only save gas, you walk off a french fry or two!
